Caesarean Section performed at full dilation affects around 2-3% of births, and carries an increased risk of trauma for both the mother and her baby. Intra-operative complications account for the majority of morbidity and often occur as a result of the increased manipulation required to deliver an impacted fetal head. However the NHS Resolution found that 9% of brain damaged babies were as a result of an impacted fetal head at caesarean section.
